Clayton PIERCE was born on 22 Jun 1856 in Pulaski Co., GA.13,14 She died
on 11 Feb 1935 in Stephens, Ouachita Co., AR. She is reference number
668. From a newspaper clipping given to me by Sallie Leigh (Smith)

"Once more it becomes a sad duty to announce the death of a good
woman - Mrs. Sallie Smith, wife of
L. G. Smith, died on February 11th, 1935, at her home near Stephens.
After long affliction she passed away, but
the shock made it seem sudden.
She was born in Meriwether county, Georgia; being a daughter of Rev.
Dr. Lovick Pierce, who died at her
home a few years ago. The Pierce family came to Arkansas from Georgia in
1883. She was married to Mr. Smith in
1886 and resided near Stephens all her married life. Her husband seven
children, together with her aged mother, a
sister and two brothers are left to mourn their irreparable loss. The
life she led was a Christian one; so quiet, so
serene, so pure, and truly devoted to her family.
Mrs. Smith was laid to rest last Sabbath in Mt. Prospect cemetery,
by her pastor, Rev. C. O. Steele, and
a large gathering of loving friends. The entire community extends its
heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family." .
On the Marriage License of Linton Smith and Sallie Pierce it lists
Sallie's age as 25, giving her a birth year of 1861.
Her son's birth certificate lists her birth place as Greenville, GA.
This information was given by her brother Lovick Robert Pierce. Sallie Clayton
PIERCE and Linton Green SMITH were married on 2 Feb 1886 in Richland, Columbia
Co., AR.15 The Marriage
certificate for Linton Green and Sallie Pierce is from
Columbia County, Arkansas. Linton is listed as being from Richland in
Columbia county and age 31, Sallie C. Pierce is listed also from Richalnd
in Columbia county and age 25. They were married on 7 February, 1886 by
Minister W. H. Steel. The marriage certificate is recorded on page 309 of
book D of Marriage Records on 9, February, 1886 by Clerk recorder Dave
Dixon.

born on 18 Jan 1855 in Stephens, Ouachita Co., AR.14 He died on 30 Sep 1931 in Stephens, Ouachita Co., AR.13 [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE: Buried]16 He is reference number 804.
Linton Green Smith (1855-1931), the son of Deraslin F. and Esther
Major Smith. He married Sallie Clayton Pierce (1856-1935) in about 1886,
they moved to the farm just outside Stephens, Ouachita County, Arkansas
and farmed the land the rest of their lives.
There were seven children from this marriage; (1) Mary Ida (16
Dec.1886-14 May 1920) m. Kenneth Booth (2) Carrie Esther (24 Jun.1888-23
Mar.1922) m. George L. Brummitt (3) Lovick Claude (7 Jan.1890-27
Jan.1978) m. Bessie Moore Poynter (4) Addie Ethel (27 Sep.1891-1979) m.
George L. Brummett (married Sisters) (5) Lottie Leigh (22 Apr.1893-9
Jan.1944) never married (6) Milton Earl (29 Nov.1895-15 Oct.1974) m. Opal
Landon Chastain (7) Linton Duke (6 Apr.1898-22 Jul.1963) never married.
Sallie and Linton settled on a farm just outside Stephens, Arkansas
and farmed the property the rest of their lives.

Stephens people were grieved to
learn of the death of a friend and
neighbor Lint Smith who passed
from this life September 30 after a
lingering illness.
Deceased was born and reared
near Stephens and has always lived
in this community. He was a mem-
ber of the Methodist church and a well
beloved community leader. He had
been afflicted by blindness for twenty
years but he was cheerful and inter-
esting notwithstanding this Mr.
Smith was twice married, the first
time to Miss Ida Jordan. To this
union one child was born which died
in childhood. His second wife was
Miss Sallie Pierce sister of L. R.
Pierce, merchant of Stephens. To
this second marriage was born seven
children, the boys Claude Earl and
Duke -- all living near Stephens.
the girls were Ida, who became
Mrs. J. R. Booth,deceased, Carrie
also dead, who married George
Brummit, Ethel, George Brum-
mett's second wife, now a widow
and Lottie, who is unmarried.
Lint Smith was a brother of
our townsman, E. F. Smith, who is
now the sole survivor of the family
of seven brothers.
Funeral services were conducted
by the Rev. R. A. Tetter
at the M. E. church and interment
at the Mt. Prospect cemetery,
attended by a large number
of relatives and friends, with
many beautiful floral offerings.
Lint Smith leaves behind him

ord of his life. This country has
need of such men as he and now
that he is gone those who live
after him can do no less than
